IELTS is the English test almost every university and visa authority on our destination list accepts, and for most applicants from Bangladesh it is the first fixed deadline in the whole process. Book it early: the score is valid for two years, and a weak result you have time to retake is a much smaller problem than a weak result you do not.
What band do you actually need
Undergraduate Degrees: Overall 6.0 to 6.5 (typically with no individual component below 5.5 or 6.0).
Postgraduate / Master's Degrees: Overall 6.5 to 7.0 (with a minimum of 6.0 in each section).
Direct Visa Requirements: Scoring 6.5 overall significantly boosts visa approval probabilities across high-value study destinations.
The visa authority is a separate question from the university. Some destinations set their own English floor for the student visa even when the university has waived the test, so check both before you assume you are exempt.
Test Structure & Scoring Dynamics
Listening (30 Mins): 4 sections assessing comprehension across various native English accents.
Reading (60 Mins): 3 long academic passages focusing on analytical reading and comprehension.
Writing (60 Mins): Task 1 (data/graph analysis) and Task 2 (persuasive essay writing).
Speaking (11–14 Mins): Interactive face-to-face or video interview covering general topics, a cue card presentation, and in-depth discussion.
The Rounding Secret: Each module is scored on a 0 to 9 band scale in half-band increments, with your overall score calculated as the average. The official rounding rule works in your favor: an overall average of 6.375 automatically rounds up to 6.5. Boosting just one module by half a band can elevate your entire overall score.

Test Providers: Both British Council and IDP administer official tests across major hubs, including Dhaka and Chattogram.
Test Formats: Computer-delivered tests run multiple times weekly (results in 3–5 days); paper-based sittings occur roughly four times a month (results in 13 days).
Critical Booking Rule: Ensure your registration name matches your passport word-for-word. Any mismatch will invalidate your test results at the test center with no option for appeal.
One Skill Retake (OSR): Computer-delivered test takers have the option to retake a single module. (Note: Always verify if your prospective university accepts OSR scores before scheduling).

What is the difference between IELTS Academic, General Training, and IELTS UKVI?
IELTS Academic is required for university admissions worldwide. General Training is strictly for migration or work visas and is not accepted by universities. IELTS UKVI is a Secure English Language Test (SELT) required specifically by the UK Home Office for pre-sessional, foundation, or diploma-level courses.
What Band score do I need to secure admission and a visa for my target country?
Most undergraduate programs require an overall Band of 6.0 to 6.5, while postgraduate degrees typically ask for 6.5 to 7.0 (with minimum sub-scores of 6.0). Achieving an overall score of 6.5 or higher significantly improves your visa approval odds across all 9 of our target destinations.

Should I take the computer-delivered test or the paper-based test in Bangladesh?
Both tests cover the exact same content and level of difficulty. However, computer-delivered IELTS offers faster results (3 to 5 days vs. 13 days for paper) and allows access to One Skill Retake (OSR) if you need to improve a single module score later.
